ABOUT

Nikolaus James was born in Melbourne, Florida and currently resides in Statesboro, Georgia where he attends graduate school and holds the position as gallery assistant at Georgia Southern University. From the Fall of 2015 to the Summer of 2017, James served as the Photo Lab Teaching Specialist at the University of North Florida, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in photography. Upon graduation from UNF, James was recognized as the Outstanding Graduating Senior and graduated Summa Cum Laude. James' responsibilities while working at UNF were to assist students and faculty, maintain digital and analog photography labs, as well as manage and train student lab assistants.

Much of James' work includes fabricated scenes made before the camera, most of which are influenced by science fiction, fantasy, video games, and mythology. The use of miniatures plays a common role in his picture making process. His obsession with the use miniatures brought James to the Atlantic center for the Arts’ 26th Annual University Student Exhibition - making him the first photography student from the UNF to exhibit at the ACA Student Exhibition. His work has been shown in galleries throughout Florida and Georgia including the Southlight Gallery in downtown Jacksonville, and the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach.
